Germany Reports Record Level of Politically Motivated Crime in 2025
Officials said nearly half of these offenses were linked to far-right extremism. Groups identified as neo-Nazi and right-wing extremist networks were responsible for 42,544 cases. These included thousands of hate-related offenses, such as 8,396 xenophobic crimes and 4,138 incidents targeting religious communities, including both Islamophobic and antisemitic acts.
Violent activity attributed to right-wing extremists also reached its highest level since 2017. Authorities recorded 1,598 violent attacks targeting migrants, refugees, and political opponents, marking an increase of more than 7% compared with the previous year. These attacks left at least 1,146 people injured.
Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the figures as a record high and stated that right-wing extremism remains the most significant security concern. He emphasized that the largest share of politically motivated offenses continues to originate from far-right groups.
At the same time, officials noted a rise in other forms of extremism. Left-wing extremist groups were linked to 13,490 offenses, representing an increase of more than 35% year-on-year. The data also included 6,886 crimes attributed to extremist foreign organizations and 1,983 offenses connected to religiously motivated extremism.
