Germany Records Modest Rise in Industrial Output Despite Auto Sector Decline

(MENAFN) Germany’s industrial production rose slightly in April, increasing by 0.4% compared with the previous month, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), as reported.

The construction sector posted a notable monthly gain of 2.4%, contributing significantly to the overall increase. Positive performance was also seen in the chemical industry, which grew by 2.1%, along with fabricated metal product manufacturing, which rose by 1.6%.

In contrast, the automotive industry recorded a sharp downturn, with production falling by 4.7% over the same period, weighing on overall industrial performance.

Energy-intensive industrial sectors also showed improvement, with output increasing by 1% compared with March. Outside of core industrial activity, energy production edged up slightly by 0.2%.

Overall, the data points to a mixed industrial picture, where gains in construction and chemicals helped offset weakness in automotive manufacturing.
